McGill institution is a public research institution that speaks English Located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The institution was named for the Scottish trader James McGill, whose bequest founded the institution of McGill College in 1813. McGill College was founded in 1821 by royal licence. It is ranked #30 in QS World University Rankings 2024. The University is ranked #54 in Best Global Universities. It is renowned for its academic excellence, offers a variety of scholarships and financial aid programs to help students from all backgrounds pursue their educational goals. Most applicants are automatically considered for entrance scholarships based on their academic record (typically a strong GPA).

McGill University

One-year entrance scholarships (value: $3,000)

As long as they fulfil the minimal academic standards, all applicants to McGill undergraduate degree programmes are immediately eligible for a one-year admission scholarship.

Please be aware that you are not guaranteed an offer of an admission scholarship, even if you fulfil the minimal requirements.

Applying

  1. There is no need for a second application because these scholarships are given out only on the basis of academic success.
  2. However, in order to be considered for admission to McGill, you must attach the necessary supporting documentation:
  3. Up until the date of the admissions application deadline, all grades including interim grades will be awarded.
  4. As soon as subsequent grades—final or interim—are released, they are sent to the admissions office.

Major entrance scholarships

(value: $3,000, $5,000, $10,000 or $12,000 renewable)

Note: $12,000 scholarships are only available to Canadian citizens or legal permanent residents of Canada.

Eligibility

It provides merit-based admission scholarships to new students enrolling in full-time undergraduate degree programmes at universities.

Scholarships for entry are not available to transfer, mature, diploma, exchange, special, part-time, or visiting students.

Maximum one entrance scholarship

Recipients of McGill centrally-administered entrance scholarships can receive only one scholarship. If you receive more than one offer, the final entrance scholarship will be that of the highest eligible value. This will not impact Faculty-specific Entrance Scholarships.

Deadlines

Even if you have been given permission to submit a late entrance application, the deadline for submitting your Major Entrance Scholarship application remains the same, moving from January 21 to February 7.

Need-based financial aid for future undergraduates

Entrance Bursary Program

McGill University is dedicated to helping deserving undergraduate students who need financial aid to pursue their academic goals. Financial need-based admission scholarships are available to students from low- to modest-income families through the University’s admission Bursary Programme. All of the following are eligible to apply:

  1. freshly admitted undergraduates doing their first year of study
  2. first-year undergraduates who have been accepted directly into professional programmes in law and medicine (having previously earned a degree)

The program’s objective is to increase the University’s accessibility for individuals who are struggling financially by supporting other financing sources such government assistance, funding from Indigenous bands, part-time employment, parental support, and other funding sources.

To be eligible

In order to be eligible for the Entrance Bursary Programme, candidates need to:

  1. Register in the University’s full-time degree programme.
  1. Show that you have a financial need and that you intend to apply for government student loans and/or funding for Indigenous bands.
Application deadlines

We strongly advise applying within 30 days of the date of the University’s official acceptance, as funding for this programme is limited and available on a rolling basis until funds are depleted.

The official deadline for applications is June 30.

Mcgill university graduate scholarships for international student

A flagship graduate scholarship at McGill

You can receive complete funding for your master’s or professional studies with the McCall MacBain Scholarship. Applications for the cohort of 2025 open on June 1, 2024. By September 25, applicants must be Canadians living abroad as well as students and graduates from Canadian and American colleges. The deadline for all other applications is August 21st.

The Weston Fellowship

Value of award varies: $19,000 for 2023–2024

Renewable twice for master’s degree and twice for doctoral degree. Renewing is contingent upon continuing to be in good standing with the programme and submitting an acceptable progress report.

Eligibility

  1. Have applied and been admitted to McGill’s graduate programme and enrolled in McGill’s graduate programme.
  2. Will be fully enrolled throughout the entire length of the award.
  3. M1 or M2 status is required for master’s students, as shown on their Minerva transcripts.
  4. PhD1 to *PhD5 (as shown on their Minerva transcripts) are the requirements for doctoral students.
  5. Be preparing or doing research on university instruction in any Faculty.
  6. Doctorate students are given preference.

The Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office will notify departments and candidates of the competition results in May.

Arbour Foundation – Scholarship for Master and Doctoral level study in Computer Science, Engineering, and Management

Value & Duration: Award is for one (1) year

  • $20,000(Masters) MSc, MMF and MMA – renewable once
  • $30,000 (Doctoral) – renewable once
  • $20,000 (MBA) – not renewable; specific requirements must be met

Eligibility

  1. They had completed two semesters of full-time study at a Québec university within the previous twelve months before their file was moved to the Foundation. The students were required to enroll full-time in the autumn and winter sessions before the summer semester, as the competition took place during the summer. These two semesters were spent completing coursework for a different programme instead of the one they applied for.
  2. be eligible for the scholarship if they attend full-time in a master’s programme during the autumn and winter semesters that follow the competition.
  3. Have a minimum average of 75%.
  4. When the first scholarship instalment is made and a student has two full semesters (fall and winter) left in their programme, they are entitled to earn the scholarship themselves.
